What We Do

services and projects

3:11 Youth Housing exists to bridge the gap between homelessness and interdependence. Building a firm foundation only occurs when providers and young people work in tandem to create opportunities for growth and change.

The youth who enter a 3:11 home are incredibly talented, resilient, and motivated young people who desire stability and a supportive network. The young people who engage with 3:11 have great potential; they need invested people and relationships for true transformation.

We walk alongside each young person who moves into a 3:11 home, setting goals together that make sense for their life circumstances.

Youth come to 3:11
for safe and affordable
housing. There are 6
houses with 3-4 youth
per unit. They each
pay $250 a month.

House mentors work with
youth to set short & long-term
goals. Youth attend monthly
community meals, birthday
parties and holiday gatherings.

40-60% were physically abused*
66% have an alcoholic parent*
32% have attempted suicide*

There are over
2,000 homeless
youth in the Kent
County area.

What 3:11 Provides

Youth in Grand Rapids

Building Community

Youth enter a house and become a part of a community like none other. Youth receive immediate support and encouragement through an environment where they are known and their basic needs are met. The community is built through weekly house dinners, birthday celebrations, and time together during the holidays.

Youth Advocacy

We partner with community organizations to provide youth advocacy/case management services. Each young person sets short-term, mid-term, and long-term goals, and works to achieve these goals with their youth advocate, house mentors, and supportive networks.

Building A Future

Educational barriers are broken down as youth obtain high school diplomas, GEDs, and attend college. Employment barriers are decreased as supportive employers partner to hire youth and train them in vocational sectors. Authentic life skills training occurs within the context of real-life situations and creates opportunities for growth.

Youth pay $250 per month in rent & utilities; $50 is saved towards their first month’s rent and security deposit after they move out of a 3:11 home. Mentors who live with youth in duplex style homes eat weekly meals together as a community and develop relationships through intentional conversation. At 3:11, we engage with young people from their point of reference and walk with them as they move themselves to the next step in their lives.

Core Value

We are interdependent as an organization, drawing on the resources already present within our community at large to create a network of resources for success. We believe that our youth must be interdependent with one other for true change to occur. We recognize that every young person must have networks of support to be able to achieve their goals and attain self-sufficiency.
